My latest project!

Hello Fabulous People,

I know I have been absent, as of late, but there has been a whole lot going on! My family and I made a rather large move, moving from "The North State" to the "Central Coast". Relocating our home and business was quite a task! Things are finally all unpacked, and we are settling in quite nicely. Enjoying the change in landscape, and the beautiful sunsets! If you follow me on Instagram, you are familiar with my latest sky obsession!

Now about another big change for me.... For some time now, I have been tinkering with making sculptures and lamps out of industrial components, repurposed parts, and vintage finds. I have been sketching and collecting for a couple years now. Upon relocating, I started talking about my ideas to my good friend, Aaron. He is a local electrician, like my husband, and has always wanted to get in touch with his artistic side. Well long story short, we decided to embark on a new adventure, and Central Coast Glow was born!

We have opened an Etsy Shop, and are selling our artisan illuminations to the locals on the Central Coast. We're hoping to have some more up on the shop, just in time for the "gifting" season. Stay tuned....

Cheers,

Vintage Obsession

Hello Fabulous People!

As you may already know, I have a passion for things from years gone by.  At a young age, I fell in love with "all things vintage". I owe this passion to my grandmother, she had an antique shop, so from a very early age she would take me on "picking" adventures. This instilled an appreciation for the hidden treasures that can be found in thrift shops, yard sales, and flea markets.

Hitting the pavement isn't the only way to find vintage gems, you can shop for that "perfect something", in the comfort of your own home, in your pajamas! If you haven't already, you have to search through the many shops on Etsy. It is the perfect place for all things vintage, because it only contains vintage or handmade items. And it's also a really great way to show your love & support to small businesses and their owners! So take just a few minutes, and check it out.

I absolutely love the Mid Century flavor of the art by Vintage Beach, like this Miami Poinciana Hotel Print.

Shopping for the perfect Mid Century Modern Arm Chair? Look no further!

Or how about a Swanky Bar Cart for your next shindig?

Now you need a few things to adorn the top of that lovely bar, how about a Brass Pineapple?

Or some Souvenir Bar Glasses?

Cocktail Shaker Set, perhaps?

Need to know when to shout out, "last call"? Keep time with this Vintage Clock.

This is just a small sample of the many wonderful things you can find on Etsy. Oh, and beware, Etsy can be very addictive! Happy shopping!

Cheers!

National Lipstick Day

Hello Fabulous People!

National Lipstick Day!?! Yes, there is a National Day for just about everything! But I gotta say, it gives me an excuse to talk about one of my favorite things, MAKEUP! Sharing with you just a couple of my favorites....

I am obsessed with Esme Minerals Lipstick! So many lovely colors! Two of my favorites are Rosita & Flambe. The Rosita is part of her Lip Tint collection, and I love the gold undertones. I wear this almost daily, as it softens & conditions my lips. So silky!

The Flambe is part of her new, more vibrant collection, and it is a wonderful bright coral color. It is quickly becoming my new favorite, for when I want a kick of color. Another plus, she uses all natural ingredients, so your lips feel great while wearing it, and for hours after! Gotta love & support small business. Love, love, love Esme Mineral Makeup! Keep up the good work!

Now let's talk about NARS. I recently picked up my new favorite Red Lip Pencil at Sephora. If you are into the Classic Red Lip, the "vintage pout", you just gotta try the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella! This pencil is awesome! I was truly impressed with how creamy and silky this felt. Not your typical dry pencil! And this stayed vibrant for most of the day! Great job NARS! A perfect addition to my vintage wardrobe!

I would love to hear about any of your favorite lipsticks, please feel free to share! Happy National Lipstick Day!

Cheers!

Travel Deals

Hello Fabulous People!

So as I was making plans for vacation, I noticed some really great travel deals! So of course, I just have to share them with you!

So when planning a trip, I have a few favorite sites that I like to research & compare. Kayak is nice because you can compare several of the discount sites, against theirs. I have found some of the best prices on airline tickets there. With summer sales, you can't beat some of the offers on Southwest. Check out their National Sale on One-Way Tickets, some as low as $63!

Now, I have to say that Groupon has some really great travel deals. For instance, check out the screaming deal on a trip to the Fiji Islands & Nadi. This package includes a 5 Night Vacation, AND Cruise, AND airfare from LAX! What??

DIY Repurposed Earrings Tutorial

Hello Fabulous People,

One of the things I enjoy most, is repurposing old junk items into new found treasures! Not only is reusing/recycling great for the environment, but it also means you can create some unique, one-of-a-kind, pieces of art!

For this project, the supplies I had on hand were given to me by a friend. I helped her with an estate sale, so she gave me several bags of leather and vinyl scraps, and a bunch of broken jewelry. Knowing that I love to craft, she figured I could turn them into something great! Honestly, I have had the items for a couple of years, they got put in a box with the rest of my crafts, and I just unearthed them this week! Excited and full of inspiration, I started creating earrings and cuffs. So, in this tutorial, I am going to show you how to create four pairs of fab earrings, with mostly repurposed supplies.

California Road Trip

Hello Fabulous People!

Thinking of taking a road trip this summer? Well, there are some wonderful places to visit in California. We have a little bit of everything here, the ocean, mountains, valleys, deserts, and forests. One of my family's favorite spots is in Fort Bragg, on the Mendocino Coast.

Although the water is quite chilly, it is absolutely beautiful! There is plenty to do around Fort Bragg & Mendocino. We often camp at MacKerricher State Park. The campsites are just a short walk away from the beach.

Infused Water Chillers

Hello Fabulous People!

Things are beginning to heat up outside, so it seems that cool drinks are in demand. Now, I am a water drinker for sure. Nothing quenches my thirst, not tea or soda, just water. Although I love plain water, it can get boring, and it's nice to change it up a bit. I often infuse my water, by adding a lemon wedge or cucumber slices. Yesterday my darling daughter made a delicious blend! It was so refreshing! This inspired her to make a few more infusions, all of them were so good, that I thought I would share her ideas with you.

Summer Apricot Vanilla Jam

Hello Fabulous People,

Don't you just love this time of year? When all of the lovely fruits and vegetables come into season. Well, last week, my wonderful friend let us come and pick apricots from her tree. We gathered quite a few, actually more than we could eat before they would go bad, so I decided to try making a pectin free, freezer jam. I had never made jam before, but my family loves the homemade jam that our friend makes, so I thought I would give it a try.

This Summer Apricot Vanilla Jam is really yummy! Enjoy with your favorite scone or bread, or add it to the top of vanilla ice cream. It's like summer in a jar, so I just had to share the recipe with you.
Bon appetit!

DIY Molten Jewelry

Hello Fabulous People!

One of the DIY projects that I absolutely love to dabble in, is jewelry making! I love all types of jewelry projects, repurposing vintage finds, playing with polymer clay, beading, you name it. If it's an accessory project, I'm in! So I am very excited to share how I made these earrings, and what medium I've been playing with!

Being a bit bored with the materials I had been working with, I wanted to try something unconventional, and turned to Pinterest for inspiration. I happened to see a Mod Podge Melts post, which led me to a tutorial on Debbie Doo's blog. The project was for using these elements in your home decor, but I thought they would be cute as jewelry or hair accessories. Being full of inspiration, I was ready to go! The only problem, I didn't have all the lovely Mod Podge brand items to work with, yet! Being the impatient person that I am, I thought I would work with what I had, until I got to the craft store again.

The items that I had on hand were, resin molds, hot glue, glitter, and acrylic paints. So I started playing around with my materials. I filled up some of my resin molds with the hot glue, boy was that a mistake! I could not get the glue out! Feeling a bit bummed out, I started doodling with the hot glue on the parchment paper, a kind of "connect the dots" motif. That motif, morphed into some pretty cool shapes. So I decided to throw some paint on them, and turn them into pendants, earrings, and hair accessories.

A Beauty Adventure

Hello Lovelies!

So yesterday I wrote about Karita, of Karita's Handmade, but what I didn't tell you is that she has a beautiful daughter who is also an entrepreneur. Miss Emory followed in her mother's "beauty product" footsteps, and has a pure and natural mineral makeup line called Esme Mineral Makeup.
She has a booth with Karita, at the Farmer's Market, and you can also find her pretties on Etsy.

I personally love mineral makeup! So I was very excited to try her "all natural" line. The mineral foundation is great! The foundation is light-weight, while giving awesome coverage! You can also add this to your favorite moisturizer, for a tinted moisturizer look.

I have also tried her mineral blush in Cheeky, which I like to use on my eyes as well.

The eyeshadows I found to be just lovely. The pigment is true to what you see in her pictures. And I like that if you add a little water on your liner brush, you can apply it as a liner. My favorites of the Esme colors are: Pink Champagne, Marshmallow, Raspberry Cream, and Black Velvet. I can't wait to try more!

Now, Esme also has a wonderful lip tint lipstick. It is slightly sheer and feels amazing on your lips. I use these like a lip balm, because they condition my lips. The one that I like is the Merlot.

So I have to say, that I just love Esme Mineral Makeup! She has a great, "all natural" product that delivers good coverage, with long lasting, beautiful results!

I just love when I find these type of products, natural, handmade, wonderful products to enhance my beauty! It also is an added bonus to find a small businesses owner that I can support. Do you have any artisans or local market vendors that you love? I would love to hear your stories! Until next time...

Cheers!

Squeaky Clean Adventure

Hello lovelies!

For years now, I have been into reducing the amount of chemicals that are in the beauty and personal care products that we use. I have experimented with making my own deodorant, lotion, shampoo, soap, lipgloss & hair pomade; just to name a few. Now, my family has really liked some of my products, and others they refuse to use! Stay tuned for more posts about that later!

Anyhow, I recently met a wonderful woman named Karita. She has an all natural soap & skincare line. She even has pet care products! Karita has been a part of the Farmer's Market for over 20 years.  Her wonderful all natural soaps are also featured in several of the stores around the area. Well I just had to see what all the buzz was about, so I tried some of her products.

Veggie Garden Adventure

Hello Lovelies!

Have you noticed the increase in the amount of news articles being written about food safety? It is actually quite concerning. So, in an effort to know where our food comes from, and how it is handled, my family and I decided to try our hand at growing a vegetable garden. Not only would this be a good teaching opportunity, but if the garden was a success then we might just be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

I started my research on Pinterest, of course. I wanted to know how to do an efficient raised bed garden. Being that we live in California, in the middle of the worst drought in years, it would also have to be drought friendly. Oh, and I also wanted to use recycled wood or containers. My husband, Captain Awesome, was able to score some scrap wood and built a couple of raised boxes.

On a trip to Costco, I happend upon an Organic Garden Seed Variety Pack. I have never had experience growing anything from seed, but a package of 16 organic seed packets for under $20, I thought it was worth a try. This package also appealed to me because it had seeds for veggies, fruit, & a salsa garden! It mapped out which plants could grow together, and how much you could yield from a 4 foot by 4 foot container. It was all set up like "Gardening for Dummies".

So, I had my girls start planting the seeds in seed pots, the ones that are biodegradable, so that we could put them directly into the soil. Cucumbers popped up first! We were so excited! Then the others followed. This little garden has turned into quite a project.

Well now a nice little crop has come in! We had a couple heads of butter lettuce, and lots of sugar snap peas, beets, and bush beans.

The zucchini, squash, strawberries and melons are coming along nicely, but the peppers are taking their sweet time. Now it is a constant struggle to keep the pests away. We found diatomaceous earth to be helpful for keeping the snails and slugs out, and a host of other benefits, (more to come on diatomaceous earth in a different post).

So that is a small glimpse into our little garden. More adventures to come, I am sure!

Cheers!
